Best Canva Export Settings for Printing

PNG (recommended)

Download as PNG at the largest size available. PNG and JPG files can be previewed in our Visualizer, which also checks the resolution for you. If you have Canva Pro, increase the size slider before downloading for a sharper file.

PDF Print

Also a great choice for print quality. We accept PDF files, but the Visualizer can’t show a live preview of a PDF. We’ll review your PDF by hand before printing.

Avoid

Screenshots, PDF Standard, or files sent through text or social media. These are usually compressed and can print blurry.

Bleed and safe zone: Extend your background color or photo all the way to the edges of your Canva page so there are no white edges after trimming. You can turn on File > Settings > Show print bleed in Canva to see the edge area. Keep important text and logos at least 0.5″ from the edge on yard signs and car magnets, and at least 1.5″ from the edge on banners so hems and grommets don’t cover them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you print my Canva design?

Yes. Download your finished design from Canva, upload it to Mako, preview it on the product, and order it printed. We print it and ship it to you.

What file type should I download from Canva?

PNG is best if you want to preview your design before ordering. PDF Print also works well for print quality, but PDFs can’t be previewed in our Visualizer, so we review them by hand before printing. JPG is accepted too.

What are the best Canva export settings for printing?

Download as PNG at the largest size available, or as PDF Print. Avoid PDF Standard and screenshots, which are compressed and can print blurry.

What resolution does my Canva file need?

At full print size, aim for at least 100 DPI for banners, 150 DPI for yard signs and car magnets, and 300 DPI for stickers. The easiest way to get there is to set your Canva design to the product’s real size in inches. Our Visualizer checks the resolution of PNG and JPG files for you.

Do I need to add bleed in Canva?

Extend your background to the edges of the page, and keep important text and logos away from the edges: at least 0.5 inch on yard signs and car magnets, and at least 1.5 inches on banners. You can turn on Show print bleed in Canva’s File settings to see the edge area.

Can I preview my Canva design before I order?

Yes. Upload a PNG or JPG to our free Visualizer to see your design on a mockup of the finished yard sign, banner, or car magnet, plus a resolution and fit check, before you buy.

Can I send you my Canva link instead of a file?

Please download your design from Canva and upload the file. If your file is over 50MB, you can share a Google Drive link instead.

Do I have to use Canva?

No. You can upload finished artwork from Photoshop, Illustrator, Adobe Express, or any design app, as well as PDFs and print-ready files from a designer.

Is Mako Printing & Designs affiliated with Canva?

No. Mako Printing & Designs is an independent print shop and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Canva. We simply print finished designs, including ones created in Canva.
